Sky

I was chatting to someone this week who said there is something special about the sky where I live. She’d been driving down the M6 and had noticed how vast the sky is here compared to just 30 miles further south where she lives (still in Cumbria I hasten to add) and it was validating for me to hear it wasn’t just me who thinks this.

I’ve long been captivated by the sky. As a child I used to lie on my pony’s back in the evening, head on her rump as she wandered around the paddock munching grass, and gaze up at the stars wondering what other civilisations were out there and where God lived. When I started looking for a new house to buy back in 2022 I knew it had to have an uninterrupted view of the heavens. The ever changing moods speak to me in ways few other things do and, this is going to sound daft, but I finally feel able to exhale. As I’m typing this it’s 8.30pm, I’m lying half propped up in bed, the patio doors are open onto a cool Spring evening and I’m watching the last rays of sunshine disappear behind the Lakeland fells. I feel blessed beyond measure, even though I am currently quite unwell having spent the last 3 days in my pit with raging tonsillitis. This is the view from my bed – how lucky am I?!

I don’t know what it is about the valley where I live which makes the sky feel so big. I’m sure the uninterrupted vistas have much to do with it, or maybe the way the fells connect the heavens to the landscape below, and for the most part we are blessed with a lack of light pollution, all of which combine to make the space feel limitless, which of course it is!

All for now as I’m feeling rotten but I just wanted to share a few pictures for your enjoyment. I’ll catch up again when I’m feeling better.
