Wyrd Wednesdays: Mediumship

I had another fabulous Wyrd Wednesday at the Centre for Liminal Studies at Broughton Sanctuary last week. We were treated to an afternoon workshop by Penny Hayward, where we practised our psychic abilities and had a go at mediumship.

At the end of last year I began to have some weird things happening in my house. TVs turned on by themselves, the weighing scales in the bathroom turned on by themselves, I was woken during the night by voices which sounded like someone was having a party and I saw a large orb in the kitchen. I’d had ghostly goings on in both my previous homes, so it’s clearly me the spirits are drawn to not the houses. But I really didn’t want spirits in my new house, particularly if they woke me at 2am!

So I asked them to leave. Firmly. And, touch wood, they have 😊

But last Wednesday I knew we were going to do mediumship, so before I left for Broughton I invited any spirits who had a message for me or someone else at Wyrd to contact me from 9am til 7pm.

I don’t claim to have any special psychic abilities but, having tried all sorts of things now from remote viewing to reading runes, I have had the most success when ‘reading’ people and/or receiving messages from deceased loved ones. I am both clairaudient and clairvoyant, ie I both hear spoken words and see images.

At the workshop we were paired up with a partner and each of us pulled a coloured oracle card out of a deck. We then gave our pulled card to our partner to read.

I just say anything and everything which comes into my head. Words, images, smells, bodily sensations. You have to switch off your logical brain and not analyse anything which comes through, otherwise you put your own interpretation on the message, and you definitely can’t force information to come through.

I shall call my partner for the afternoon Y. She was absolutely lovely and I felt very relaxed reading her. I received the following:

  • Isolation
  • Spiritual quest/journey
  • Confusion/uncertainty – trying different things but not yet having found the right thing
  • Fear
  • A rainbow with a pot of gold at the end – to me this signified success at a venture
  • Isolation again, so that came through strongly
  • I then was certain that Y’s Mum had passed away, although my logical brain said she was too young to have lost a parent. I got chills and goosebumps up both my arms which convinced me I was correct about the passing.

Y was then asked to confirm if any of this was correct. She told me:

  • She was in a relationship with a man who lived a long way away. He had just gone home after a visit and she was missing him, hence the isolation feeling.
  • She had indeed lost her Mum very young.
  • She was on a spiritual journey, as her Mum had been psychic and she wanted to follow in her footsteps. She had tried lots of different psychic activities but nothing yet had resonated.
  • The fear was that she doesn’t have her Mum’s gift.
  • I thought the rainbow with the pot of gold signified that she would be successful in finding the gift that was unique to her.

We then did a group meditation, where Penny asked us to invite our loved ones to contact us. I went to my usual meditation space but none of my loved ones showed up. They never do, I think because I have no desire to contact them 🤷🏻‍♀️ Instead I saw a purple butterfly and a young male deer who looked straight at me without fear, then turned, flicked its back hooves and trotted off.

I sat down on a bench in my meditation space and beside me sat another woman from the group. I turned to her in surprise and said “What are you doing here? I thought this was supposed to be for our own loved ones?” She replied she had no clue what she was doing in my meditation space and just then 2 people appeared. It was this lady’s Nan and Grandad. Nan was holding out a piece of white or cream cloth with a lace edge, on which was some embroidery. I then got the feeling of something being handed down to children – a female family name possibly.

I relayed this to the lady in question afterwards and she told me her Nan had died 2 months previously and they had placed some embroidered material on her coffin. She wasn’t aware of a name handed down in the family, but would investigate.

When I got home, I looked up the meaning of purple butterflies and young male deer:

  • The purple butterfly had the following meanings:
Spiritual Awakening: Purple links to high spiritual frequency, wisdom, and the divine.
Deep Transformation: Butterflies represent shedding old layers and stepping into your true self.
  • The young male deer had the following meanings:
Gentle Strength: Unlike a fully mature stag with massive antlers, a young male deer represents developing leadership, balancing a tender heart with a growing presence.
Heightened Awareness: Deer are naturally alert and sensitive to their surroundings, signalling a call for you to tune into your instincts and stay mindful.
New Paths: A young animal often mirrors a fresh phase in your spiritual journey, encouraging you to move forward with grace rather than force.

The colour purple has come up a lot in recent months, including the oracle card I chose at the workshop which was purple, and I love the sound of a peaceful, gentle move forward in my spiritual journey 😊
