Work Begins

Work is finally starting on my little photography studio this Saturday and I can’t wait! It’s the last room to be done as it was slightly more important to have a functioning bathroom and somewhere decent to sleep, but it was still one of the reasons I bought the house so it’s exciting to finally get cracking. The electrician will be here putting the first fix sockets and lights in and fingers crossed the joiner won’t be far behind to fit the new floor (which, being a former garage, is at ground level and needs to be raised to the same height as the rest of the house floors). Trying to get tradesmen to turn up is like catching fog (both had promised to be here a month ago) and I still can’t get the plasterer to give me a date when he’s going to arrive 🫤 I am so ready for this house to be finished.

I had a very nice Zoom visit to Barnet & Finchley Photographic Society a couple of weeks ago to give my ‘Overcoming Obstacles’ talk. Everyone made me feel so welcome and I received some lovely feedback 😊. I really enjoy sharing my journey with other photographers and getting to chat about my passion.

We had our first Camera Club competition of the season this evening judged by the always informative and entertaining Richard Speirs DPAGB, APAGB, BPE2*. My Woodpecker Feeding Fledgeling scored 19/20, and my None So Blind creative picture 20/20 and given the accolade of best creative PDI of the night – it’s always gratifying when other photographers you admire like your images.

I’ve recently been approached about a collaboration which involves providing the artwork for a set of Oracle cards which I’m really excited about. It’s right up my street as I already read Tarot cards and although it’s a lot of work it would be a great project to get my teeth in to over the winter. I was just saying to a friend recently that I’m going to need a new project now the house is almost complete and this lands unexpectedly in my lap – the Universe providing as always.

I’m attending a spiritual and astrology workshop next weekend so that’s something different and interesting to look forward to, and I’m also putting together a portfolio of images for submission to a publishing house – I’ll tell you more about that another time 😉

Life is busy but rewarding and, apart from storm Amy, the weather remains lovely for Autumn so I’m still managing to get out regularly with my camera in this tranquil and beautiful place I call home. I feel, as always, incredibly blessed 🙏🏻.
