While most accounts of paranormal activity have a rational explanation and aren’t paranormal at all, there remains a significant portion for which no reasoned argument can be found.

I’ve had poltergeist activity in all 3 of my homes and while I could find alternative explanations for what occurred in my first house I could find no logical explanation for some of what occurred in the second.

The house was a 200+ year old stone end terraced cottage and from the day I moved in I had issues with the light bulbs repeatedly blowing in the lounge, all 12 of them! I had both the wiring and the light fittings checked and nothing untoward was found but the wiring was old so it’s plausible that the fault lay with that. The lights continued to fail for 6 years………..until they just stopped and I had no issues for the next 14 years.

I used to have a sheet of paper in the kitchen where I’d write down my shopping list, which was kept on the fridge by way of a magnet. I came downstairs one morning to find the shopping list on the worktop adjacent to the fridge, face up with the magnet sat nicely on top. It was not physically possible for this to happen naturally, but as I’m known to sleep walk I concluded I’d done it myself in the night.

I used to have a cat who slept in a wicker basket in the bedroom which creaked every time the cat got in or out. For 2 weeks after the cat died that basket still creaked………until I got another cat from the rescue centre when the creaking stopped. I figured this was just my imagination and I was grieving.

I had fly screens on the windows which were pulled down by a long chord. The chord in the bedroom used to swing violently on its own and then just suddenly stop. No draft was coming in through the double glazed window and I never did find an explanation for that.

Then one day I was lying in bed when a very loud outward breath came from the corner of the bedroom. That scared me and I saged the house.

A few months before I left the house I was woken at 2am by a god-almighty crash. A metre wide picture, which had hung on my wall for the past 21 years without budging, had fallen off the wall and lay FACE UP on the floor with the glass smashed. The hook was still in the wall. If the picture had somehow lept off the wall it would surely have landed face down. It freaked me out.

That the very old cottage was potentially haunted didn’t really bother me. If energy cannot die might it be that the energy of previous occupants was still in the place and re-enacting their former lives? For all I know, I was the ghost to them.

Two years ago I moved to a 1970s bungalow which had only had 2 previous occupants, one of whom was now living in my former cottage as we swapped houses. I absolutely wasn’t expecting any old, residual energy to be here and for the first 18 months all was well. Then in late 2025 I was standing in the lounge when the TV turned on all by itself. I made rational explanations for this in my mind and ten minutes later walked in the bedroom………and the TV in there came on by itself too. That got my attention.

I have a set of weighing scales in the bathroom which are housed under the wall hung sink and they’re the kind you have to stand on to turn them on. Two weeks ago I was lying in the bath when the scales turned on all by themselves. I can find no explanation for this.

Then last night I was stood in the kitchen, feeling so grateful for my home which honestly has such a lovely energy, and actually said out loud “I love this house! You make me happy. Thank you for letting me live here” at which a large, oblong shaped bright white ‘orb’ flew diagonally from the floor and disappeared into the ceiling. I saw it as clear as day and again said out loud “I saw you, thank you!”. This is the first ‘orb’ I’ve ever witnessed.

My first two homes were over 100 years old and I’m sure held all sorts of residual energy, so if they were haunted it doesn’t surprise me. But I absolutely wasn’t expecting my modern home to be haunted and now I’m wondering if it’s not the houses which have energy attached to them, it’s me.

If I’m more sensitive to energy and routinely tune in to ‘alternate realities’ (or liminal spaces as they’re known) through my meditation maybe energies are drawn to me? If the poltergeist activity is their way of trying to get my attention who are they and what do they want from me?
