What does it feel like to vibrate on the same energy frequency as someone or something else? Like the delicate fragrance of a Sweet Pea, it’s almost impossible to describe to someone who has never inhaled the scent.
I was in the garden most of yesterday under a hot summer sun. I’ve never been so glad to live on a windy hill, as the welcome breeze shwooshed the meadow grasses and rustled the leaves of mighty Oaks.
Butterflies – Peacocks, Red Admirals, Small Whites and Meadow Browns – performed their gentle aerial dance as they flitted from flower to flower. I’ve found 10 indoors alone this week – my home remains The Butterfly House.
I watched industrious Bumble Bees toing and froing to a gap in my dry stone wall, in which they’ve made their home, then alight on nearby Purple Loosestrife to feed.
I danced around the lawn in joy as the first Dragonflies visited my new pond. A male and female Broad Bodied Chaser, their buzzing wings breaking the silence, the still water rippling as the female laid eggs. To have Dragonflies was the entire purpose of creating the pond and I couldn’t be more thrilled.

Swallows swooped past my head to scoop mouthfuls of water, beaks dripping as they hurried on their journey. The chatter of Sparrows, the drumming of a Woodpecker and the repetitive lilt of a Thrush filled the air with song.
My resident Blackbirds were, however, a bit grumpy. I’d offered to share the fruit on my bushes with them, but their idea of sharing and mine have turned out to be quite different so I’ve had to resort to installing a fruit cage. They are less than impressed and shout at me angrily.
I picked purple and red and blue berries, their soft ripeness yielding to my touch. Rhubarb stalks, warmed by the sun, were mixed with spices to become a ginger cake, and sweetened with brown sugar encased in golden pastry. Is there anything more nourishing than eating food you’ve grown and made yourself?

When the heat became unbearable I sat under the canopy of my swing seat, the delicious aroma of hot spices from the kitchen wafting through the open window, and gently closed my eyes. My whole body fizzed with the energy of the world around me, yet deep in my solar plexus was a calming stillness. I was connected to every living thing – the grass, the flowers, the trees, the insects, the birds. Some of us are doing the Samba, some the Waltz, some are Jiving but we’re all dancing to the same tune of life.
Unlike when I’m around people, who are closed off behind invisible walls, nature has no such barrier. Our inter-connectedness is palpable.
As I lay in bed last night, with the cool breeze blowing through the open patio doors and the setting sun casting its pink tinged glow, I’ve never felt more alive. Or more peaceful. Or more grateful.
If you find a person who is vibrationally open and with whom you share an energy connection you’ve really hit the jackpot. But I’ll write about that another time because I’ve woken this morning to another perfect summer’s day and nature is calling me.
